Biden Condemns Supreme Court: It’s “Un-American” To Protect Babies From Abortion

Joe Biden rejected the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade on Friday, saying it is “extreme” and “un-American” to allow states to once again protect unborn babies from abortion.

In the landmark ruling, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, the Supreme Court overturned the 1973 abortion ruling and returned states the power to make decisions about abortion. For nearly 50 years, Roe forced states to legalize abortions until they were viable and allowed abortions up to birth, resulting in more than 63 million babies being aborted.

The Hill reports that the Democratic president criticized the ruling as a “tragic mistake” and labeled the court “extreme”.

“It’s a sad day for the country, in my opinion, but it doesn’t mean the battle is over,” Biden said shortly after the White House ruling.

He urged Congress to pass a pro-abortion law forcing states to legalize abortion on demand and force taxpayers to pay for abortions. The Democrat-controlled US House approved the bill, but the U.S. Senate narrowly rejected it in September.

Biden said voters could change that if they elect more pro-abortion lawmakers to Congress in November.

“This fall, we need to elect more senators and representatives who will enshrine women’s right to choose in federal law,” he said. “We need to elect more state leaders to protect this right at the local level. We must restore Roe’s protection as the law of the land.”

In the Dobbs ruling, the Supreme Court said the court was wrong to define abortion as a constitutional right under Roe because no such right exists.

“The Constitution does not refer to abortion, and any constitutional provision does not implicitly protect such a right,” Judge Samuel Alito wrote in the majority decision.

Biden, however, continued to falsely insist that the “choice” to abort an unborn baby is a “constitutional right.”

“The Supreme Court has expressly stripped the American people of a constitutional right they had already recognized,” he said in response to the ruling. “They just took it away. That has never been done with a right so important to so many Americans.”

One of the ways Biden plans to allow Americans to abort unborn babies is through mail-order abortion drugs. Last year, his administration began allowing the abortion drug mifepristone to be sold by mail without a doctor’s visit or direct medical supervision. Mifepristone is used to abort unborn babies up to 10 weeks gestation and is now responsible for more than half of all abortions in the U.S., according to the Guttmacher Institute.

Biden pledged to “protect a woman’s access to mifepristone” and fight against states that ban abortion drugs.

Here’s more from the report:

Biden said he directed the Department of Health and Human Services to ensure that such drugs would be available “to the extent possible” without specifying what measures the ministry would take.

He also vowed that his government would defend the “fundamental right” of a woman living in a state where abortion is now illegal to travel to another state where it is available and terminate her pregnancy.

“If any state or local official, high or low, tries to hinder a woman from exercising her basic right to travel, I will do everything in my power to fight that deeply un-American attack,” Biden said.

Biden referred to a letter from the pro-abortion American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, stating that common sense restrictions on abortion pills “were not based on evidence.”

But researchers at the Charlotte Lozier Institute said Biden was wrong in claiming the abortion pill is safe because research shows it puts more women and girls at risk. According to the research group, extensive data from a massive Medicaid dataset shows that emergency room visits on the abortion pill increased by more than 500% between 2002 and 2015.

The Biden administration’s stance on abortion is radical and unrelated to most Americans. Polls consistently show that many Americans oppose taxpayer-funded abortions and strongly support abortion limits, especially after the first trimester. LifeNews highlighted 14 recent elections here.

Since Roe in 1973, more than 63 million unborn babies and hundreds of mothers have died in supposedly “safe” legal abortions. The ruling made the United States one of only seven countries worldwide to allow elective abortions after 20 weeks.

Experts now predict that as many as 26 states will protect the right to life of unborn babies by banning abortions, saving the lives of hundreds of thousands of babies.
